I don't need a half stack a 2 10" or 2 12" combo would do fine but I haven't a clue which direction to go I love all genres of music so I want something that I can play jazz on one minute but be able to shred metal riffs on another, and then maybe kick some Texas Roadhouse Blues on 10 minutes later. ValueOfNothing: I think people who are seeking advice from YouTube are not experts and thus their choice is easy: get a boss kantana. The container is the most versitle amp, and does everything from clean to metal pretty well.
Once you learn how to play and learn what you like and hear all kinds of different amps then you of course can do that.

The Fender DeVille sounds amazing clean, but it is expensive, heavy, and hard on the ears. And personally I find the distortion not so great.

GI D: You didn't explain the modeling amps clearly enough, I'd be confused if I didn't already know, you didn't recommend wattage for various scenarios (home, gigging, gigging with a mic, rehearsal with drums), you didn't mention cabinets and speaker sizes at all.

Cheap modeling amps such as the code and spyder are total garbage.
If you want a good sound cheap, try joyo, bugera, or jet city.

James Powlett: Go for a basic valve amp you can always add sounds through pedals, but at least this way you’ll get a great tone, use an attenuator to get best out of valve amp without having to crank volume up

MrMoneyHelper: The first amp I bought was 200 watts and had a 412 cabinet. Hauling that to band rehearsals and into clubs and a studio was always a lot of work. If I had a clue back then I would have bought a combo amp with a 12" speaker. One day I was invited to a performance in a college theater. I watched a guy play a combo amp that was solid state with 120 watts. It filled the room just fine. My words of advice: crank a combo amp in a store and experience just how loud it can be before buying a 412 or even a 212. If it has 100 watts it will be plenty loud. Believe me. Save your back. You can also carry a combo amp in a small car with no problem.
